Question about Apartment Leasing

So, I googled for a bit but failed and I thought someone on here must have some good advice.

Situation is basically next April me and my fiance are planning on getting married. The following fall, she will be attending UMichigan for a Phd program where we are planning to move in together. There will be a gap from April until mid August where we will need to find a place to live in Jersey.

I was told by someone it's very hard to get an apartment lease for that short of a time period? Is this true? Do you need like a 1 year lease for an apartment? Or could I get a 4 month lease no problem. If not, what are my other options?

i would jus let the leaser' know in advanced or call and ask. i know we had a lease for 6 months when i rented

You could do a month to month lease

not common, but not impossible. check craigslist for a sublease during that time.

The nicer places have a year lease usually but I have gotten quite a few nice apts going month-to-month.

Just don't let the landlord know and ask when you call about info about the lease.
