question about alts...

i ordered an ho alt, and twice now the son of a ***** ****ed up and didn't even last 5 minutes each time. my stock alt which is 10 years old, is working perfectly. the alt company claims my tensior is probably off, what do you guys think?
Thinking and knowing are two different things.

We need more details.

Where does your car idle?

What is the HO alt doing?

Does it charge at higher RPMs?

Does it charge at all?

 
car idles at 800-1000 rpms, first time the alt didn't charge at all from the very moment i turned the key on, second time it flucuated between 13-14 volts even at high speeds, and made a noise so loud i thought a ****ing snowmobile was under my hood, and the alt was so hot i had to wait 20 minutes to take it out. flip on the defrosters and it dropped to 11. throw my stock alt in and everything is perfect.

96 bonneville. it can't be installation because the stock alt has worked perfect, and it has been 2 different problems. plus the alts were junk as soon as i turned the key. it's not like i was able to even run the car and ruin the alt. as soon as the car was started each alt was junk.

 
Yea if the old one still works before and after, it eliminates most other things. I know a lot of times people have an Alternator go bad, buy a replacement and that one goes bad too. Which is normally from something causing the real problem. Does not sound like the case here.

 
well both alts i received from excessive amperage have not worked from the moment i started the car. i told nate i needed the alt back asap, he said he would have it back out in no more then 2 days, well it was 6 days and now he is on vacation. spent $30 in shipping on this piece of shit. could've bought a mean-green alt for the price it's cost me with these piece of shit.

 
hey ice i got my alt at the same place and i have a 97 bonneville and have had the same problems took three repairs and when i got i back last about a month ago it work for two weeks he wanted to wait til he was back from vacation to send it back i have been messin with it since the termpro group buy back in may or somthin i do a lot of drivin i work 60 miles from home so i do any where from 120 to 150 miles a day five days a week thats not including my weekend drivin so i need this thing to be reliable so im not sure what im going to i already had to replace my factory on on this last time so now im out another 140 for the oem one the factory one went out due to age and high vehicle mileage (216,566 miles)

but he is a great guy hasnt givin up on the problem yet for me anyways i may be frustrated but im sure he is too so i have heard of a lot of good feedback about him and his alts so i do trust that we can figure it out i hope
