Question about a used car

Hello... I am about to buy a very cheap used car for about $200 (yes its a pos) but I want to use it as my car to just mess around with... do I have to go through putting insurance for it and registering it and getting a license plate?

Basically I want to take this car apart and turn it into something worthwhile because all these interior project threads I'm reading are giving me a shitload of inspiration, plus my brother left me alot of old Kenwood stuff that has nowhere to go.

If you're going to drive it on the road, you have to register it. As well as insurance and such.
