question about 4 channel amps plz help

hi i was looking at getting an amp for my 4 speakers phoenix gold octane 5 1/4 and 6.5's i was told if you have a 4 channel amp you would be able to hook all speakers up now i was looking at a phoenix gold octane 500.4 for 100 bucks or a 800.4 for 150.00. right now i have a phoenix gold octane 800.1 hooked up to 2 alpine type r lwt mw know guys thanks very much for your help.

If you are asking if you can hook up all your speakers to a 4 channel amp then yes, thats what its for. ONE speaker to EACH channel.

sorry about that one guys, the 6.5's are about 70 rms each.

500.4 puts out 200-300 rms watts

800.4 puts out 300-500 rms watts

which direction should i take.

You need to look at the ratings again.

With that said, i would go with the bigger of the two.

Yea with those ratings I would definitely go with the bigger one. It looks like it would give you just the right amount of power for the application.

hmm yea the bigger one looks better now. just watch the gains and you should be fine. but im sure 50 watts to each speaker would sound good too.

Honestly, with my Xtant amp being rated at 50w x2 into 4ohm and a sub channel of 200w/rms into 2ohms- if my system is only 300 watts, it is either massively underrated, or 95% of amps are grossly overrated- even rms ratings. Either that, or my speakers are rediculously efficient. Just my $0.02

You'd be fine with the 5.0.4, or the 8.0.4... you're looking at a difference in output of less then 3db just make sure you have your HPF set correctly in addition to your gain so you don't cook em.

nice i was thinking of ditching the 51/4 and see if i can cut the dooor panal a little and see if i can put 6 1/2 in the front too good idea lmk ? thx alot guys

Yea if there is a way to fit 6 1/2"s in, by all means go for it. The 6.5's will be able to get louder with the same amount of power due to a larger cone area on the woofer. I have a pair of MB Quart 5.25 comps and my friends MB Quart 6.5's will blow mine out of the water in output with the same amount of power.
