what is the diference between 24 bit d/a verses 8 times oversampling.

Reason im asking is because I currently have this unit:

JVC KW-R900BT CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

and I just preordered this unit:

Kenwood Excelon DPX791BH CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

My current Jvc has 24 bit d/a which sounds very nice. Just wanting to try something new so I preorderd the Kenwood which says " 8 times oversampling" not sure what that means exactly.

Just want to maintain the same sound quality I have. Another thing that is giving me second thoughts is after lookiing after the high pass frequencies, time alignment, dsp, the Jvc looks alot better on paper.

Looking for opinions if its worht the switch or not.

If not,Im going to cancel the order and get one of the new Pioneer dvds that recently came out

Oversampling is a technique used in the D/A stage of many electronic circuits. By oversampling the digital waveform at a much higher clock rate, one can get higher resolution out of a lower bit-width DAC by using dithering and low cost analog anti-alias filtering in the output circuit.

For example, using oversampling, one can design a circuit around a 20-bit DAC that has the same SNR performance as a 24-bit DAC.

All that said - I doubt you will *hear* a difference between these HUs that can be specifically attributed to the DACs.

ok, im understanding now. Now my only concern is the difference in xover frequencies between these two h/u's. Ill just go ahead with my order and let them ship me the Kenwood when its available which is April 3.

then Ill see if its worth the switch.
