Question about 2 JL Audio 12w3's with ripped foam

I have a pair of JL Audio 12w3v2's that were given to me by a friend. My problem is that the foam rings around the subs are ripped and torn. I don't know too much about car audio so thats why I came here.

I assume the subs are unusable in this condition, so I don't want to attempt to install them into a box, but I don't know. Is this a fixable problem? Are they in fact unusable unless repaired? And is the foam surrounding the only thing that would need to be repaired for the sub to sound correctly?

I've seen some "subwoofer foam replacements" on websites, is that all that I would need to replace them? Or is there more to it than that? thanks

i have refoamed quite a few subs, mostly cerwin vega ht types but i did a old school w6 a while ago. just take your time scraping the old foam off of the cone. i used a razor blade and i scraped it off.do not try to cut it off or you will go right through the cone. the hardest part of the whole job was getting the dust cap off to shim the coil without hurting the cone. take your time and it will be fine.
