How many watts can a 12w6v2 handle without hurting its performance, i know JL says 400 rms but i have heard that they are underrated, so does anybody know?

That is going to vary rather tremendously depending upon what box you use.

JL typically rates their drivers thermally as follows. If the driver fails at 800w, then they rate it at 400w.

So, upto around 600w or so should be perfectly safe.

The box is about 1.25^3 sealed? Is 600 a good number for that box?

600 will be just fine for that box.
