Hi guys. I'm new here. I've had a look around but haven't found anything specific to my goals:
I am anything but a hifi 'purist' when it comes to car audio. I listen mostly to electronica and heavy metal, and all I really want to do be able to do is crank my stereo as loud as I can so that the guitar palm mutes, bass guitar and drums are super loud, but everything else is dialled out. My current problem is that the sound gets distorted when I still want it louder. At the moment I have the following:
JVC KD-SH1000 (really don't want to change this, happy with the UI etc)
Focal K2Ps in the front (rated for 85w rms)
The Eclipse T2 on this page in a box about 1 cubic foot. Rated for 450w rms
Eclipse PA5422 amp which puts out 85w rms/channel. Rear channels bridged to the sub.
Sound deadening in the doors.
The 'twist' is: I have my EQ looking like a ski slope (I can nearly hear some of you shudder when you read that). Cos that gets rid of the 'super ouchy' 1-5kHz region which does my ears in at great volumes. I have 60Hz-100Hz boosted for more guitar crunch/mid-bass impact etc. The sub is underpowered and can't keep up with faster music, and doesn'even hit some of the lower notes I know are there when listening to Massive Attack.
Anyway, I'm told by a few other parties that the sub enclosure is an OK size, but that I should get a dedicated monoblock amp to run the sub properly, and then bridge all 4 channels on my existing amp to run just the fronts. The volume of the sub isn't a problem atm, this would simply fix the one-noted-ness and lack of control. And double the power to the fronts can only be good, but what I'd really like to know is will this let my turn up the stereo louder without the front speakers distorting? Cos I really want another 20-30% volume, than what I have now. Will an extra amp + bridging also allow that? I had a pioneer DEH-P80RS until recently (hated the UI) and it had the exact same 'problem' in that I couldn't go as loud as I wanted without it breaking up.
Thanks for any help in advance, and if there's another thread which answers this for me, please direct me to it, I could'nt find it.
