~$80/hr is the typically hourly charge depending on the market. Most cars are charged around $80 w/o wiring or $100-120 w/. But unless you have a crazy car that requires a ton of disassembly (such as cars that have their battery in the fender that you can't easily get to). It shouldn't be more than that. That's just outrageous. To me it sounds like it's the case of pricing out the job.
Basically some shops, who either don't know how to do it, or don't want to do it, set a price so high that you won't want to do it.
