Q to L7's...

you know what i think maybe i need to work with my settings at my HU as well...i have my bass at -4 because my stock speakers up front distort at much lower volumes with lower freq's going through them and i think that may be taking some of the "kick" away from my sub

yeah only thing i didnt like about going so small was i talked to Nick @ FI and he said to keep it at 6.5 min.....yeah as of right now im sure the Q could take more but my stock electrical isnt gonna handle it....maybe ill just screw what the FI site says and port smaller and tune a little higher in the 34 htz range

you mentioned that you have your bass settings on your HU is at -4 cause it causes distortion on your stock speakers. do you not have a low/high pass filter setting on the HU that you could use. if it's on how low to do you your filter set to? why not just try to get soem aftermarket speakers first and bring the bass level to a flat and see if your substage gets better.

to be honest i have no idea....about the HP/LP...i have the 9857...bass is a -4...treble is at +7 and sub is at 10/15...ive never messed with the bass center frequency or the bass band with or treble center freq or BBE

Run your HU with Sub System 1... its somewhere in setup. This way your subs volume is independent from the rest of the car, enabling you to basically have your speakers in the car at around 10 volume, or wherever it doesnt distort, and your sub to be louder. If that doesnt work, try just fading the volume towards the rear (if distorting speakers are in front).

Or just get new speakers, but if you just tweak some things here and there you can do whatever you want.

isnt that the same as adjusting the subwoofer that comes after the bass and treble settings?

No, because in sub system 2, whether or not sub volume is 5 or 15, or wherever, if you increase the main volume or decrease it, the sub gets louder or quiter accordingly. Sub system 1 allows the sub volume to go up independently of the rest of the speaker's volume.

Does your deck not have a HPF? Set it to around 80-125 if so and you shouldn't distort those speaks TOO bad.

My 12" Q is in 2.5 @ 28 and I LOVE it. Your low end is probably just really emphasized with that 18. I know my 12 is a low end monster.

IMO you will want to kill yourself when you lose the lows you have now, that's what bass is all about man. Gotta feel those LOWS. I love makin my dash hop up and down with a single 12. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I vote to stick with Q's....try a couple of the 12's. Mine hits hard from 25hz on up to it's cutoff.

Good luck with whatever you choose.
