PVC vs. AERO PORTS............

When making a box, and figuring out the space needed. Is there a difference in copensating (sp?) between the 2 for air space?? I know the aero's are tapered vs. the pvc being "flat", but how much difference does that make??

From what I've read, aero ports should be 1" longer due to the tapered design...correct me if I'm wrong.

When I calculate port length using aero's, I dont count the flares in the length, and my tuning has always come out to be DEAD on, maybe off by 1 Hz...but nothing more.

for us poor people, how much worse is it to use pvc than aeroports? im gonna be needing 8 of them, and that $$ adds up quick

aeroports are plastic, so i can't imagine it being much different. the flare just makes a smoother edge

get a box with the same amount of port area with a slot and with pvc, and your probably not going to notice a huge difference

So there would be no "major" difference it I had a box that was 3cf ported to 34hz useing PVC, aero ports, or slot ports?? Is is not worth sending the money to get aeros?? I've always used PVC, and i've only used a sloted box once. I gained 1db by swapping boxes. im no pro, but i really dont think you would be able to hear a huge difference, it would probably show on the mic, but not very noticable to the ear if everything is the same

ok let say you have installed 2 4" regular unflared ports on an enclosure and youre getting slight port noise between 30Hz and 50Hz, replacing them with aero ports or routing the port with a 1/2" round over bit may help with the port noise.

if you have the right port area you wont get port noise. flared ports and rounding over a port is a bandaid, because of failure to calculate port area correctly.

so basically the port noise issue from pvc can be solved by using more pvcs. right?

if you have enough port area it shouldnt make much noise. just the more you add, the longer each one will have to be to get the tuning you want
