public disturbance

ok, so i go to a parking lot on my lunches that is a minimum of 600 yards from any buildings (business district) to listen to some bassy music. My question is, in lieu of not having a RTA mic, is how loud is 135db in side my car at 25 ft when measuring from outside my car? Aside from the potential rattles and some dampening stuff in my trunk...

im trying to be courteous by staying away from buildings as much as i can while enjoying some lunchtime tunes and staying within the boundaries of the law

here, if you drive by a cop he can and will pull you over.

i was pulled over last week. we passed each other on the road.

he turned right around.

he said is car rattled going by me... i just laughed...

luckily i did not get a ticket, but did get a warning .

fuck them....

im in south dakota and the state statute is 80db from 25 ft when stationary and 83 db when moving 30 mph or greater in a 2k to 4k lb vehicle. Ive had 2 conversations with the boys in blue and numerous parking lot sit-ins, likely as a 'knock it off' tactic. I ran professional sound for bands for 5 years and i know what 80 db sounds like from 25 ft and im 85% sure that im not breaking the law, but i dont own a RTA mic anymore and dont have many connections to borrow one anymore as i got out of the biz. Living in the state that sturgis is in, it just seems really odd to me that they bother a car but NEVER a loud motorcycle that is twice as loud as me from 25 ft... Im annoyed and want to make sure that im covering my ends without buying a mic

They're taking your car in Chicago. The impound fee is like 700. Even if you go up there immediately after it's taken, good luck getting your equipment. It's gonna be in the trunk of some employees car.

yeah, i think its all sticking-the-chest-out talk, but still... Here in so-dak the cops are far more mellow, but its just annoying me that theyre even talking to me about it without a RTA mic in hand if theyre responding to a noise complaint... Funny part is that i usualy run the sub out at +3, and i had it at -6 when he came over(scale is -15 to +9). Im just ruffled and want to have my lunch decompression music to sooth the savage beast, figuratively speaking

also, luckily i have full coverage and a clause for equipment up to $2000 and i only have the stuff in my sig. Serial #s , pictures of all the stuff blah blah blah lol but, like i said, i just have some rather pointy eyebrows right now over the whole situation.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif Here in so-dak, its just a ticket and they dont have the right to impound your car, even if they did, i know a guy who works at the 3rd party company who does the impounding //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

you lose 6db with 2x distance. Of course that doesn't account for the effect of the sound contained inside the car.

The calculator I was looking at was still saying ~108 at 25 ft, starting with 135 at 1ft.

Good work Chicago. You can shoot your neighbors in the 'hood, but if you play your music loud you're DONE.

ok, so assuming that outside the car is NOWHERE NEAR (LOL) 135 db, im likely pretty safe. And the loudest part outside the car is the trunk sheet metal lol Thanks for the scientific explanation man!! Im betting im max 135 db at the base of the windshield, a few less at ambient level inside the vehicle

I got pulled over quite a bit when I was stationed up there at Ellsworth AFB.....then a loud Harley runs by the cop, way louder than my subs, and nothing.
