so i think my laser went out on my psp1001. im sure its out of warranty. i found the whole laser assembly for ~$40.

how hard is it to replace this?

also ... is it cfw/modding worth it? i have the current ofw (4.05?) and always ran ofw. ive looked around and all i can find is the pandora battery thing where you cut some connection from the battery and some crazy shit with the memory stick. is there a better way? id love to play some snes or n64 games on it..

what all can you do with a modded psp?

i know the emulator shit with older games and being able to save games to the memory stick (do you download them like torrents?) , anything else?

Download games and watch videos are the big differences. I can't think of anything else. Funny thing is though if you mod your PSP you can only play downloaded games because actual games will update the firmware.

Ill sell you a 1001 with CFW, just came back from the factory for $90 plus shipping. Everything works, no scratches that are visible when the screen is on. Plus with CFW, you can just dl games from pspiso and play them, no more buying games, Let me know and if you want it ill throw it on ebay.

I have taken apart 15+ PSPs and its not hard, just be very very careful with the clips that hold the ribbon cables in. I broke one of the clips on one and ruined the mobo. Use a razorblade, and very gently pop it up. Other than that, just make sure your keep all the crews together and know where they go. If you need any help, just ask me.

id rather do it myself.

ultimately , id like the 1001 to be running CFW , then eventually get one of the new psp's in the future to run on legit FW.

what do you think of the mod chip? basicly you can switch it from running OFW and CFW. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

I put CFW on about 20 PSPs now. I would do it for free if you lived close. Juyst read up around different site, and I woudl suggest buying a battery tool, I cut my battery apart and did it that way, but it ended up leaking later so i had to buy a new battery anyway.
