PS3 problems

anyone else have the problems with the bluray laser going bad? ive gone through 3 different ones now. from what ive read its the older backwards compatible 20,60, and 80gb models. ones with 4usb on front instead of 2. anyway the oem kem-400aaa with brown clips from japan are not being made any more even though they only have a life span of rounghly 1-2years. the new white clipped ones from china dont seem to last over 24hours. the new ps3's without backwards compable use a dual laser, one for dvd and the other for blu ray. kem-410. anyways just seeing who else. been a pretty large number with the problem on playstation forums

its the diodes for the laser. ps3 is usually fine but reading any disk is shot. it seems to be 1.5years pushin to 3 depending on your use. mine runs alot as media server and for awile in new house only form of entertainment. so 1year was with heavy use

i have a 40 gig and it burned up on me, about 3 days before the warranty expired on it.

i only use it for games....

way beyond ventalation and other simple fixes. ive replaced the laser 3times now and am giving up and just buying the newer model. i hope no one else has this problem but there is a good amount out there. the ones to be careful with are ones that read ps2 games as they use the kem-400aaa

one from hypertech was a cheap chinese white clip one even though he stated oem, last less than 24hours. and the first from psxboy which seems to have the best luck but still didnt last more than few months

as long as you dont keep it in a plastic bag, keeping it running is not a problem. its the length over a year or 2 that catches up if you have the older model that is backwards compatible.
