Normal symptom of the laser losing strength.
At this time, the only thing i can suggest is to order a new drive as just replacing the laser isnt much cheaper.

I am still awaiting the manual for calibrating the laser on the PS3 but i have yet to see my distributor have that info yet.

I have one for the 360 but i'm sure it's different.

Calibrating the laser can force it to read your discs better but strengthening the laser will make it die even faster in the long run so remember that.

do you have a link for ordering a new drive? I did a quick google and could only find news on their new hard drive.

alot of $299 blu ray players do netflix and pandora

and have better picture quilty, 7.1 analog outputs, and can decode DTS-HD and Dolby Digital True HD. The ps3 can only output PCM via HDMI

yes, that may be true, but the point is that, for 300 dollars, u get a computer, a blu ray player, and a game console. so unless u can find a dolby digital that is all 3 in 1 for 300 dollars, imo, the ps3 is still better than any regular blu ray

You might be able to buy a new laser for it (if that's the problem) on ebay for a good price. There are a couple places on the internet that will fix it for a fair price too. You could buy another one from like walmart, get a waranty for it, and then return your current one saying it broke... That's pretty shady, but people do it all the time.

I'll buy another one used when they come out. As to the hacking thing, I doubt too many 40 year old people are hacking those Wiis, and they seem to be doing pretty good.
I posted this price drop last night, but it got lost in the black hole that is 2:30-4:30 on this forum.

its also a pretty good gaming console.. $200

add all those up and i think 299 is a very good price....

You can't effectively use it as a fully functioning computer. A crude computer, sure. The last 2 points alone make it worth its price of admission though.

The ps3 is proven to be one of the best blu-ray players out there (well about 6 months ago atleast). I read an article about how they tested a lot of the top blu ray players and the ps3 beat them all...
