Pros & Cons of Aeroports

I was reading about Aeroports and from what I have read most people agree that they are better than square ports. I am thinking about just doing a simple square port for my daily box and making another SPL box with aeroports (depending on what you guys recommend).

I also read that if the ports stick out (ugly looking) they add more SPL that way. Im not sure how that works. I saw a pic (couldn't find it) on these forums a few weeks ago of a 10" L7 (think it was a L7) that had aeroports, popping it. Everybody thought it was ugly but it did get incredibly loud for a 10", which is what I want from my SPL box. Im not going to carpet it or any thing. It's going to be one ugly, loud box.

I'll see if I can find the pics. Are aeroports better for SPL?

Well, in theory, yes they are. You just cant get the same port area in a given area... and the ports sticking out just conserve box volume by not taking up space in the box (obviously). They wouldnt add to SPL in their own (or atleast I wouldnt think so-doesnt make sense), but that extra volume I guess could help a bit for a bigger peak.

I used precision ports in my box for them memphis PRs I use to run and they work **** good man. I had 2 4" ports and them subs with 500 watts kicked *** in that box. I have yet to hear any setup running at that wattage up to 1000 watts that got anywhere near that box and subs.

as for them sticking out thats mainly done by people when they are adjusting the port length to test it. its easier to change pipes on the outside than having to remove them. Some leave them out so they dont have to calculate the ports total area it would use in the box and get a more acurate tuning

I have never seen some one run a box with aeroports in the local competitions. Thats why I am not familiar with them at all.
you also never seen serious cars at these comps except the guys with walls //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I mean comeon most guys are winning trophies with 143 in suvs and hatch backs LOL I only seen 1 person actually burp, everyone else was using sweeps and music tracks.

pros:

super simple to put in

You can use an online calculator to find the right length

Reuseable

Cons:

Limited mounting positions

price considering most slot ports are made from scrap MDF

The pic is a TCAB, i have my ports like that in my enclosure for my 8, its really tacky
