alrighty im calling it quits for the night. I got everything situated for the headunit to be put in. Whats going to happen is i bolted down a wood spacer between the climate control and where the HU will be resting, there are also two wood spacers that will go along side of the HU that wedge it in pretty good. Im going to see how it works out without bolting down the side spacers, and i think the unit isnt going to go anywhere (its a darn snug fit)

Just got done with some of the wiring for the HU. Im stumped at the moment though, because there appears to be two different remote wires, and i've never had any experience with parking brake wiring, speed sensor wiring, or reverse sensor wiring either //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

almost forgot, heres a quick mockup of what the finished product should look like (with some slight adjustments. its not centered in this pic)

and the dash will be painted as well.

Are you able to use your ashtray and flip up the aux power cover still?
Not as of right now, but i'll be trimming the dash bezel before i paint it, so that everything will indeed be functioning //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I finally managed to find the easiest (or at least i think the easiest) routes for the variable speed sensor and reverse sensor wires, and got the headunit wired up and mounted in. No pictures though.

Whats left on the agenda

-install HO alternator

-modify dash bezel

-put all the seats back in

-amp rack, battery rack

-finish the box

I believe you can get both at the cluster, is that where you found them?

and after this stereo, the next project is to smooth the plastic out and paint everything a silver-flaked burgundy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

There are a few Avalanches in my area with the plastic cladding painted body color, looks great.

nope, i didnt want to have to take the cluster out.

i found the VSS wire in the BCM below the steering column. That was just a matter of pulling a plug and tapping into the wire.

i tapped the reverse sensor wire into the fusebox under the hood, actually into the reverse light sensor for the trailer hookup.

Cluster in there is only 4 7mm bolts and 1 harness if you ever gotta get back to them again.
