Hello,
I've got a '95 Honda Accord using stock wiring from a Sony CDX-GT700HD head unit to a new Polk DXI6501 component set. This is my first installation, so I may have missed something basic, but these new speakers sound awful.
Head unit is fine as it's been in the car for a while now.
While the bass is amazing, and overall I'm getting way more range of sound than the original stock speakers, the tweeters sound scratchy, and actually bother my ears after a few minutes.
My crossover tweeter settings are set to -3db at the moment, as the "0" and "+3" settings only make this issue even worse.
Just to give a run-through, I bought Honda harnesses, connected them up to what was there, used a wire-cutter on the other end of the harness, twisted the bare wires and ran them into "INPUT" on the crossover. Used the included cables to connect the kick speaker as well as tweeters to the appropriate spots on the crossover. I took for granted that the striped cable is positive; in the case of the harness, one cable said "positive"; used that for positive and the other for negative. Same installation on both sides of the car. Seemingly same issue on both sides of the car.
I know many reviewers of the DB6501 (essentially same unit) called for an amp, and I'm using only the headunit (provides 17w RMS per channel), but I just want to be sure that this is my issue before getting involved in a complex wiring job.
This is my first job, so please go easy on me.
Thanks for any help!
