Ok, so i picked up a 7998 used just a bit ago. When I set the eq to flat or user set up, it makes horrible noises, at all volumes. If I set the eq to anything else, it sounds great. This will happen if I turn it to 1 or all the way up to 35. I have the gain set where my speakers nor my amp max at full volume. Gains on the amp are set a bit below 1/4. Im using a ppi 4 channel bridged, rated at 160x2 to a pair of cdt comps. The comps are set up on the HU's x-over at 80hz with a 24db/octave slope. Ive tested the speakers with a different amp, and it still remained. What could be the problem? Here is a short clip of the noise its making...

Did you reset or re-initialize the unit when you first got it? It is a long shot and a pain since there are so many **** settings on the 7998 but maybe a CPU reset may remedy the problem sounds like a firmware issue within the Eq settings or an IC that is partially bad. That is an odd one for sure.

I believe the reset/re-initialize procedure is in the user manual. Did you contact Alpine tech support to see if they have some across this particular issue before?
