Problems installing cd player w/ hidden internal amp in 96 volvo 850

I'm trying to install a cd player into a Volvo 96' 850 Turbo. I removed the double sized unit & bought the appropriate wiring harness. However once I wired the thing in, it doesn't get any sound. I talked to a guy at Best Buy, & he thinks that I have an internal amp in the car that has to be bypassed. I don't know how to do this.

The old cd player had a 5 pin DIN connection going into it. Someone suggested that if I buy a DIN to RCA convertor and hook the cars DIN to the RCA on my CD player this will somehow hook up the internal amp & allow my cd player to function correctly. I'm obviously a novice at this stuff, and would appreciate any incite.
