The CD5000 isnt close to the 860. The 860 is a bit older but it has the ability to go active which is huge and also has quite a bit more tweaks than the CD5000. The CD5000 does have a little nicer screen though but the rest of it still looks like a billboard.

the 860 definately has a lot of processing features, but they also problems with their preouts and buying a used one will be risky

This may be true. Get the 880 instead. You'll have a couple of extra bands of eq and a look thats nicer than both the 860 and CD5000.

Well the reason I was asking is I have an 860 and I just bought a 980 to go in my car. My wife is wanting to do sq this year along with me and she likes the 5000. I was figuring that the 860 was better but wanted some clarification for both our benefits lol Thanks guys I guess the 860 stays in the family and goes in her car lol
