what is the difference between out puts at say 4 volts rather then 2.5 volts? which is better and, why? thanks

Where the gain on the amplifier needs to be set.

If you have no audible noise with the 2.5V preamp outputs, then increasing to 4V isn't going to have any impact on anything other than needing to readjust the gain on the amplifier.
