PPI 900.4 in protect mode

The amp has been going in and out since i got it. it worked for about a month and just the other day it starting working when on accessory (12v) but when i turn the car over it goes into protection. ive tried turning head unit off before starting its not voltage spike. the amp i had in place of it worked perfectly in the same wiring. i just unplugged all speaker wires and rcas and it powers on but when i pug in an rca it goes in and out of protect. someone please give me some trouble shooting solutions i can try. is the amp defective? also all speakers are at 4 ohm i tested with ddm. im grounded right to battery in the trunk.

The next step I would take is to plug in a different RCA cable from a test source. I like to use a 3.5 mm stereo to male RCA audio cable between my phone and an amp for this test. You could also just plug in a different, known good, RCA and see if you get a solid green light. If you have an RCA that is shorting out that could explain the problem.

Are you saying you don't have a separate ground run from the amp to chassis?

ok so plug speakers back into amp and use a new set of rcas plugged into phone.

yes the battery is in the trunk so i grounded stright to battery neg is that a problem?

I'd see it as one. You really need two separate grounds; one from your battery to chassis and a separate from your amp to a different chassis ground. I've seen this screw a lot of people over when this step is missed.

If the battery is already grounded to the chassis, which it should be, then he doesn't need to ground the amp to the chassis. It could create a ground loop.
