powering things with a computer power supply

we used to do this in mu buddies basement all the time but we kept blowing the power supplies. There should be like four different sets of four wires each right. Yellow, brown, black and another one right?

yellow to remote

yellow to positive

black to ground.

if you have a newer power supply look on the big 20-24 pin connector.

there should be a green wire.

stip it and connect it to a black wire or put a switch in between to turn it on and off.

hmm. when i plug the ps in, it doesnt sound like its on. im guessin it has to be plugged into a motherboard as well... in order to power up

i tried. didnt work...
if there is a switch ont he back turn it on.

it has to work

all the powersupplies use the green wire as the turn on wire.

so either you did something wrong orthe powersupply is crapped out.

i have gone through 50+ powersupplies and unless they had a switch, real old ones,

you had to connect green to a black wire.

and make sure it is a black wire not a brown wire.

i checked, yeah it has a switch. and ive tried this power supply earlier and it worked fine. also, there is a brown wire in the harness as well... add that to the green and black ones?
