I bought a used 12"Diamond CM3 for my brother. And when I got it home I took it out of the box to verify voice coil impedance and I see that only one voice coil out of the two was wired to the terminal cup. If ths sub was ran that way, what kind of damage could this cause?

Using one coil halves powerhandling and changes the subs operating parameters, but won't cause any damage as such.
