Powering JL Audio 13w7

Been away from car audio for a few years....Recieved a JL Audio 13w7 as a gift and picked up a MTX Thunder 81000D for $ 150 to power it....Anyone have experience with these ? I may have fired blindly, but with specs suggesting 1000watt @ 2ohm I figured it was a safe, small investment

??

Only problem, was that 81000d modified to handle impedance loads below 2 ohms? My cousin is running a 13w7 off of an 81000d and he wired his sub to 3 ohms because his amp would fire up in protect when he had the coils paralleled. It is more than enough for him because he is running his stock speakers off of his head unit.
