PowerBass - Worth a dime?

I'm not looking for SPL though :|

Impressive that you got so much boom out of such cheap subs, but it's not what I'm looking to do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Actually I don't think my set up sounds that bad maybe not award winning sq by any means. I don't have a great ear though.

But several other people have told me it sounded good also so just saying a lot of people will tell you PB is junk but I haven't had any negatives.

Here is the Usaci trophy I got with that pic. Go look at usaci state records and 0-600 stock class state spl record and see the numbers and name match :p Loud isn't hard, small box more power and let it wang lol. PS 12's I over payed for them since I got them at a shop. 99 bucks for both.

you must not have the same cheap *** pb's that i did. mine were something like 12.4 or 122.4 or whatever was the model numbers. they were absolute poop. about as good as roadgear. i looked at the s models much better built than the ones i had.

OK - I've settled on the MB Quart sub. I think I'm also settled on the PA BAMF20001D amplifier.

Now, I just need to decide about the enclosure. I'm definitely thinking sealed, and the website suggests 1.4 cubic feet.

Where's a good place to buy high quality, simple 3/4" MDF enclosures?

I have used a few Powerbass subs, the XS were SPL beasts. Then the plain black ones, those were very impressive subs.
i love those xs subs. i had a pair in my car a long time ago and ran a jl 1000/1 to them and i hit 144.1 on the tl. they were beasts. now imagine how much louder it would have been with 1000 watts to each of them:) well probably no more than like another 2 db but that would be in a perfect environment but 144.1 was pretty impressive. now im probably around 141 max with the one off of 1500 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Not trying to be a party pooper here, but there isn't a whole lot to brag about when the record for your state is a good 12-15db lower than what the serious competitors are hitting in the same class. I know someone doing mid/upper 50's with a single DD M3 for power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif...finals shall be interesting this weekend.

Well, just for my input here - an AQ 1200D amplifier, and a FI SSD subwoofer of any size is going to match up fairly nicely, and going to be definitely within your budget ^^

You can look online. millionbuy sonicelectronix and so on. But I would suggest you build your own enclosure. If you know anyone with the proper tools you can easily build it in about 4hrs or so. At the most. You may have trouble finding a box with just the right dimensions.

My advice would be to take the box designs, to a place such as Home Depot, buy the wood, and have them cut it to the specs you need.

From there, you can easily take it home and put it together yourself fairly easily with just some simple knowledge.

I know the feeling, though, I was all against building my own box, from laziness, and the thought that I'd screw it up, but it's remarkably simple job to do, and do well.

I hear what you are saying. But I was running an old kenwood amp at 2 ohms putting out about 850 watts (they claim) is why it isn't up to par with the guys burping m3's at 1/8th ohm. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'd like to see an amp burp @ .125 ohm.....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
Look into the dd m3. the fact that usaci rates them at 600 rms and they can be burped at 1/8th ohm is why so many people use them at the big usaci comps. Here is a review of it. http://www.mobileelectronics.com.au/forums/index.php?showtopic=84265

"They are strappable. (imo any decent sized monoblock 1500rms+ that is not strappable is a waste of cash)

They love .25 ohm"

I've heard of quite a few people burbing them at 1/8 ohm.
