Yeah, I've never used a fused distro box either. My old neighbor did that in his Tahoe, but I don't think I'll need to - I think I'll be fine. That chart helped, thanks for that.

normally, no, but in this unique situation, yes, it is required. His run of 5' 4g is way too long to be safe with the fuse size he'd use on his 1/0. It would need to be under 2' long to be safe with no fuse.

FYI, that link doesn't help you much because it does not take into consideration the length of your wire from distro to amp. It's probably assuming under 2 feet. They even state, "It is assumed that the length of wire is going to be relatively short..."

And you should run it at 12.2 volts and not 13.8. It's more realistic and you will play your stereo with the car off sometimes.

lol buy a fire extinguisher...not saying what your doing is unsafe, but they are only 10 bucks at walmart and it's a worthwhile investment. Why does that sound like it won't work?

I'm running 1/0 gauge (fused) from the battery to a disto block.

Then I'm running two 4 gauges (each fused seperately) to the amps.

I'm not trying to be a smart *** or anything! Its just that I have never been in this situation before, I've always just ran (2) sets of 4 gauge. I just have a lot of wires laying around the house that are around 7' and I'd rather use that stuff up than buy more.

We're not saying you can't use the 4g. We were saying make sure you fuse the 4g lines from the 1/0. Fused distro, in-line fuse holder, same thing. Just make sure you fuse the 4' lines with 100-125 amp fuse. If using an in-line fuse holder, it must be within a foot after the distro block.

In your scenario, it would be easier to go with a fused distro block rather than in-line fuse holder, since the in-line fuses would probably be under your carpet, hard to get to if need be, and may cause a bulge - what you're trying to get away from in the first place.
