Hello,

I'm still new to this.....so bare with me.

I have the JL 1000/1v2 amp and 2 13w6 subs i'm installing in a '88 Regal. The car has the factory 100amp alternator and regular advance auto parts battery.

The alternator needs to get replaced soon anyways so i figured i will pick up a 200amp alternator made by Powermaster.

Before i buy it though, i figured i'd ask the experts first. I'm sure it will help, but would you also recommend switching out the battery to a D35 yellowtop too? Or maybe just keep the regular battery and pick up a 5 farad capacitor? Or keep it the way it is with the new powermaster alternator? The car definately will have the "big three" done to it. I'm not planning on upgrading the system down the road at all.

If anyone can help me decide that will be great.

Thank you!

if you can afford it then this is what i would do, NEVER BUY A CAP!!!!!!

200 amp alt

Do the big three

new battery deep cycle up front(spv70, DEKA,powermaster)

rear battery deep cycle(spv70, DEKA,powermaster)

1/0 runs all over the bish

power to rear 1/0 fused at 300 amp(rear battery)

ground to rear 1/0(rear battery

ground to chassis (rear battery)

alt to battery 1/0 fused 300 amp

engine block to chassis 1/0

battery neg to chassis 1/0

and crank that bish up

1) Big 3

2) Good front battery (Kinetik, Deka, Odyssey, Stinger, XS Power)

3) Upgrade the alt

You recommend a 200 amp alternator AND dual batteries for 1,000 watts RMS?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Wow, the advice here gets crazier and crazier by the day.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

ETA This is better advice:

1) Big 32) Good front battery (Kinetik, Deka, Odyssey, Stinger, XS Power)

3) Upgrade the alt

Do the big 3 get a good batt up front maybe smalle rone in the rear and then see if you get dimming.. My son runs 1300 rms off dual batts stock 90 amp alt with big 3 and get barely any dimming when he has the system thumping..

Thanks guys for all the input!

My current battery has a 650 CCA and 95 capacity for those who were wondering.

I definately will stay away from buying the cap.

I'll order the 200amp powermaster tomorrow. Before i have the system hooked up i'd rather have everything ready to go.

I did some research and it seems the Kinetic battery would be best to go with over the Optima. From the specs i believe the HC1400 would fit under the hood for me.

I have a couple questions i want to make sure of,

When i install the 200 amp alternator, obviously i will need to put a bigger power wire from the alternator to the battery. They recommend a 4 gauge wire, but is it really necessary to do a 1/0 gauge instead?

Also, 300 amp fuse will be fine for the alternator to the battery

AND the amp to the battery?

Thanks guys, i really appreciate it!

4 awg is usually only good up to 125A, so 1/0 would be needed for the 200A alt.

The HC1400 is a great battery. I have one myself and it has been very god to me for over 4 years now.

As for all inline fuses, you use the fuse that matches the wire's rating. So if your 1/0 is rated up to 250A, use a 250A fuse.
