Power keeps cutting out to amp

We got A R/F 1800 wt. ran off a Kenwood head unit and pusing 2 soundstream 15's. When we first hooked it up it was working then all of a sudden the power started cutting out to it and the light on the amp went out and so did all the sound to the subs. We hooked up another amp to make sure it wasnt the amp and still no power. Anybody got any info on ths.

First check your fuse. Next, Check your system voltage. Then, Check your grounds. Then, check your remote wire.

We already did all that. Se what I got is a 74 Pontiac ventura that was stripped and turned into a drag car, but i drive it on the street. So I don't have any factory stuff left. I had to run all the spaekers and wires. So this is just the basic head unit subs and amp. Its all ran to the battery. Thanks

Hey I was reading something on another website that says to run the RCA wires on the opposite side of the car as the power wire. Would this have anything to do with it?

No. What voltages did you measure? Did you have 12v on at the amp on the main power wire? What about the remote wire?

My husband did it last night so im not sure but he said he did. See What I have is a kill switch in the car that is ran to the battery and if the kill switch is not on the car will not start, so when we put the head unit in the car we ran the power wire from the head unit to that kill swithch wire that goes directly to the battery so the stereo will turn on even if the ignition is not on. He has the power wire hooked to the battery and then to the amp. The remote wire from the head unit to the amp. The ground to a bolt in the trunk where the trunk latch is.And the subs to the amp. So do you think maybe something is wrong in this pattern? I know its hard to tell without looking.

Sounds complicated, but you mentioned you have a husband...so your a chick? Pics now

No, I am not a CHICK. I am a woman who likes to paint cars and loud music and yes I have a husband. Sorry, not posting pics of me but I will post one of my car. LOL Now you wanna tell me more about the wiring or not? And yes I have an attitude. LOL Most women do.

You won't get very far on here without pics....

I would help you but I don't completely understand the kill switch idea or why the head unit is wired into it. Is the kill switch just an anti-theft measure?

No like I said its a drag car. So the kill switch kills the engine. Its a toggle switch. but where the head unit is wired to it is constantly hot. As far as I know everything is ran right except for the RCA wires are on the same side of the car as the power wire.

I just talked to a couple local shops and they said it is probably the ground. Does that sound right?
It could be several things. If you have a loose ground connection, it could cause the amp to temp. turn off/on/off/on etc. It could also be loose/bad connections at the amplifier itself, or the battery. Or it might be a bad/dirty fuse in the power wire (I'm assuming and hoping it is)

That's as far as connections. You could also be drawing too much current and the battery/alt isn't able to keep up. Especially if you're playing with the car not running. Grab your multimeter and monitor the volts at the amp.
