Power/Ground question...

Ok, soon I am going to be installing the Crossfire TEK352 amp I have to power some Memphis PRC63 door speakers. Anyway I already have a Memphis PR300 amp. Would it be ok to run 4 gauge to a distro block and have dual 8 gauge out to power my amps. Then use another distro block and have the 8 gauge ground on each amp go into distro, then 4 gauge out and ground it that way? I was told they both needed to be grounded at the same spot and if I could do my wiring this way it would simplicate things a LOT.

So could I do that? Let me summarize...

Powering amps=4 gauge wire - 1x 4 gauge in and 2x 8 Gauge out distro - Power to each amp

Grounding=The ground from each amp(8gauge) - to the 2x 8 gauge spots on distro - to a 4 gauge out to ground

The first part is all good, the 4 guage into two 8's.
I am not sure about the grounds, I never heard the needed to be grounded at the same spot. Who told you this?
A friend...So you think that would work above though?

Anyone else feel like chiming in as well?

The power supply setup will be OK, but I believe that the ground should be done seperately. I've never heard of both grounds having to be grounded in the same spot either, but I have been told that each amp should have its own ground. Better to be safe than sorry - You don't want to fry both your amps!!

And if you are using the same grounding spot, then the both of your distibutor block options are correct. I think it would be simpler to juse ground them at two different locations.
Well the amps aren't going to be far from each other..I only have so many seat posts..But for simplicity sake I think im going to try grounding them at same spot. The only reason I want to do this is that I already have 4 gauge grounded good, and I already have 4 gauge coming in under my seat so I wouldn't have to have any **** 8 gauge ring terminals or anything. I have some 8 gauge so it would just be "plug and play" so to say for me. I wont fry anything grounding them to same spot will I? I mean the two 8's would go in distro, and the 4 gauge out would ground them both. That should be more than enough ground?

Both of my amps (75x4 & 600x1), 20" neon lightstick x2, and my remote turn-on relay are all grounded into a distribution block which is fed by a cable welded to the spare tire mount under the trunk floor. There's no inducted noise or any other problem that could be associated with insufficient ground in my system.

Meh!, you're right. Using the same grounding point for all your amps and/or accessories does worlds to simplify an install. I did it and it worked out fine for me - no reason that I can see for you not to as well. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Good luck with your install.
