Power fuse size for AQ1200D?

Got my new amp today...hooked everything up without the fuse in the power connected so I wouldn't have any shorts...

Finally got to hooking up my fuse back together and the fuse shorts. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif I don't think God wants me to have a system anymore. I'm out of fuses too...

It was an 80A. Curious about what sizes everyone else is running for these amps? Is that too small or what? Need to order some more.

Even at 14 volts and 100% efficiency you can't push 1200 watts with just 80 amps. Step up to 120 ish

That's not how it works. The amp won't produce 1200w constantly unless it's playing test tones at full volume.

RMS current draw of that amp playing LOUD music would probably be in the 40-50A range with short term bursts to 100A. Fuses need time to heat up and melt and that level of current wouldn't do it.

It would take constant full volume test tones for an 80A to blow, even then it might hold up.

I would set it up with a 100-125ANL, but having the 80A fuse originally wasn't a problem.

Your fusing the Wire not your amp (it should have its own fuses)

Fuse it NO MORE than what the wire can handle, but fusing ONLY according to the wire size isn't always the best idea either.

If you have a 1000w amp and go with 1/0 it wouldn't make any sense to use a 300A fuse.

Yeah I'm not quite sure what was wrong with that fuse...I even have a 60A in it right now (that's all the automotive store had so I had to take it) and I can play it just fine right now. It's not anywhere near full volume but it works. I completely forgot about the wire size = fuse size. I just think the fuse was bad anyways so it short.
