Here is the Power Acoustik OV2-1200 without its backing...

Someone please tell me that the yellow goo is normal? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Can this thing do a 2ohm-mono load? I can't find anything about this amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I think I mentioned to you, but I had mine run at 2 ohm mono for about two months with no ill side effects. They are hardy amps, they just aren't very popular. The yellow goo looks to me like thermal grease. Kind of an inexpensive version of the goo you put between a processor and a heatsink.

Nice looking insides though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

Thermal grease would likely be conductive (and extremely messy -- non-hardening), so it's probably not that. More likely a non-conductive anti-corrosive moisture and oxidation sealer goop.

They do look pretty good on the inside. Surprised. I asked a SoundStream tech if they were the same as the SS amps, and he said many of the SS amps share the same motherboard, but the components are different (better on the SS), and that the higher-end SS amps use completely different motherboards and components for "better sound and higher power".

No doubt, PA is more budget minded. I always liked that amp. I would definitely buy it again if I needed the power range. Keep a hold on that amp, if you get RE XXX mids or Adire Extremis mids, it would power both nicely. =)

Well I have a 1993 Lexus LS400 and I'm planning on using this amp to power four Elemental Designs eu-700 6.5" woofers. I like doing things that most people in this immediate area haven't done, and Aaron Davis of Innovative Rides said he can make those speakers jam //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I was just worried about it running at a stable 2ohm-mono load, because the four woofers are each 2ohm DVC. If my math is right, I can get a 2ohm-mono final load from the four woofers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/clap.gif.178cba2c538c68e720c727fcb024b19c.gif. I just wanted to make sure that this amp could do the job. Hopefully the $100 won't be money wasted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

edit: would Adire or RE XXX mids be a better choice than the eD eu-700's? From what I know, each eD woofer can go into a 0.5ft³ ported enclosure and can be tuned as low as 30hz. I have zero experience with any of the brands, but I'm hoping someone on this board does?

The Adire Extremis and RE XXX 6.5" are NOT woofers. They are "super midrange drivers" that just play hella low. The XXX takes about 300 watts and is SVC 2 ohm, the Extremis takes 125 watts and is SVC 8 ohm. I was keeping my OV2-1200 for a pair of new Extremis woofers, but sold it because I hadn't used it in months, and it needed to get some use out of it. It's now in the hands of a nice hispanic fellow that tried to steal my HU. I digress, that's a long story.
