Power Acoustik amp getting hot!!

I just installed a Power Acoustik PS2-1250 2 channel amp in a friends vehicle. The amp is pushing 1 12'' Type R and is bridged at 4 ohms. The amp seems to get extremely hot...it does not go into protect or anything like that, but it just gets real hot. I have it mounted to the back of the back seat in her 03 Dodge Stratus. Could it be that it is mounted too close to the seat? should I put some washers or something under each screw to lift it up a bit?
