Possible alternative to a deck?

My deck got ripped off about two weeks ago now, after having to repair TWO windows, I dont have any money for a replacement deck. However, I do have an old portable CD player, and a pretty old school MP3 player.

I was wondering if it would be possible to maybe slice up a headphone wire from the CD player or MP3 player, and rig it up to the cars wiring. Rigging up the power wires to the car is not needed, because both can run off the lighter.

Has anyone ever tried this before, and if so what were the results? Also, other than splitting the right head phone wire to go to the front right and back, and the left wire to go to the front left and back speakers, is there anything else that I should know?

I did the wiring (if you can even call it that, its very simple) for the deck origionaly, so I'm pretty confidant I know what I'm doing. But, if anyone sees a problem, please point it out.

Thanks for the help

to test shit i still use an old portable cdplayer, plug into the headphines jack and you can get a splitter at radio snack or walmart or whever that plugs in and had rcas on the other end, same thing i use to hook up my puter to my receiver at home, but yea, ghetto

My insurance didn't cover it. The comprehensive coverage cost an extra 100$ every 6 months for some reason. And I figure ive had the car for 2 and a half years, so thats $500 I saved, and the windows only cost $200 to replace. So in the long run, I came out $300 ahead.

Anyway, i don't care how ghetto it is. If you've ever seen my car, you'd know that ghetto is the least thing I care about. Only one of my wipers works, my door locks intermittently don't work. And instead of ice freezing on the out side of my windows, it freezes on both the inside and out sides of the windows, which is hell when you need to get to work on time.

Don't tell me I need a new car. I just need this one to last 6,000 more miles as a personal goal to make the car break 100,000 miles. I just need a temp fix because I work in a bad neighborhood. The radio I had was a POS that skips on every single CD, even sitting still, but they still took it.

You guys may have heard about the Miller Brewery executive that got shot and killed a few days ago in Milwaukee, after he handed over his wallet. I work 2 blocks from there.
