ports up or to side ???

i,m building a box for 2 12 r's. the box is 2.75 c.f per side. my question is should i port it to the sides or up for best sound. the subs have to face foward in this box and it will be going in my ford ranger. if i port to the sides there will only be about 3-4" between the port and the side of the truck

I see lots of subs facing in all sorts of directions but ports usually to the side.

just leave at least 3 inches from any walls seats etc.

thanks, that's what i was thinking(side firing ports) anyone else have experience with ext. cab trucks?

i've seen subs up and subs forward but all had the ports to the drivers side.one guy was doing high 40's with one 10!

what about 1 port facing each side since i have seperate chambers

it might not be as loud.you may get some cancelationfiring sound in 3 directions,but i say give it a try if it doesnt sound good build a single chambered box.good luck

I would fire in line with the drivers or wherever there is the most clearance.
