Porting with no SSF

ive been running my sub HARD with no SSF and a tuning of 40hz as well. key here is being aware of what can happen and what a sub bottem out sounds like. most qualtuy subs should be able to handle more then there rated Xmax, in terms of Xmech

It'll be fine, just don't be retarded and ignore bad sounds (I.E. bottoming out, distortion) from your sub //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
exactly...or else youll be like me and blow up ur shit trying to push it as close as it can go to the the mechanical limits.... even with a low tune it's best to get some kind of a SSF....http://www.hlabs.com has some nice rca inline SSF's for fairly cheap...check them out, it might save ur sub someday if for some reason a low low low tone goes through accidentally

Since this is my first foray into the ported world (I ran two Infinity Perfects in sealed boxes for a while) what's the best way to approach a box design and how to tune it? Haven't been in the audio scene in a while lol.

Depends totally on the space you are limited to (or willing to give up), the size, and amount of subs you have, and what you're looking to get out of the box (whether its the highest SPL score possible, or best sound quality, or SQL - the mix of both). Lets hear what you have... give us a little more info.

At the moment Im looking to run a pair of TC-1000 8's in a pretty tight enclosure (.5 cubic feet) recieving 300 watts each. Looking for SQ mostly but I'd like it to be able to hit some lows as well. I have to shape the box so that it slides under my seats just right. Any good tutorials out there for how to port for SQ or SQL?

been running subs with SSF since i got into audio, jus have to be careful for bottoming out and such. Its pretty easy to tell when your pushing your subs limits IMO

all you gotta do is be careful,

Now wang away
