Ported Box Tuning

Hey guys...

Ive built like a gazzillion boxes in my time, but I always pretty much defer to the specs for tuning, and size, etc...

What I wanna know is.. I have a Type-R 12" (05) in a 2.3cuft box, tuned to 30hz at the moment. This sounds EXCELLENT in this box, while playing some Techno, Some Rock, and Super Good playing Rap... (Rock/some techno -- the bass is there, its just not SPL'ish, but sounds good still, just need more SPL on that type of music)

So what I wanna know is, to get good bass in all types of music, what would be the ideal tuning frequency? If I head up to 35hz or so, will that produce more SPL on all types of music?

My buddy's box that I built him was 3cuft tuned to 38hz or so, and it just rumbles like hell.

Any info helps!

If you want accuracy, tune to 27-32. If you want SPL for a daily driver, tune to 33-40. If you want to compete, tune to 41-60. You should feel the bass at 25Hz but you should feel it in your chest the closer you get to 50. If this is for a daily driver, don't tune it above 40. I personally don't like anything over 38 as you will lose some of the low end. Tune to 35Hz, that's a happy medium.
