ported box for my two 12" alpine type r's

im building my own sub box for my alpine type r's and i've decided to go with a ported box cause i mainly listen to rap. but how should i do the port? i'd rather do a slotted port than a round one. i've seen designs with them on the side, middle, and some crazy ones. which is best? thanks for any help

the 4.4 tuned to 35 hz box was pretty frickin loud. it's in the "free box plans" sticky in the enclosure design section.
