Port size question

Does the width of a port dictate the loudness of an enclosure? If I had two enclosures both tuned to say, 37hz, one with a 4in wide port and one with a 8in wide port, would either one of them be louder than the other?

the bigger the port area the lower the port turbulence and noise

it is prolly safe to say if you are using one speaker I would use at least 2 4's and or one 6

i know what youre say trunk.And ima find out soon witha 10in box build.tuned to 40hz with like a5x10 inch port.then a regular size port for1.5cubes 2.5 x 10 and adjust the lenght to keep tuning at 40 and see if there any advantage to either.

The port width does not necessarily affect the "loudness" of your setup and or sub box. The width of the port simply changes the tuning of the box. The wider the port generally the higher the frequency of the box will be. The actual loudness of the sub box will all depend on the sub and amp combination you're running as well as your song or tone being played. Also the vehicle and different sub/port positions affect loudness.

Give me an update on your results 30hrtz and let me know what happens. I built a box for a Treo SSI 15 tuned to 33hz and it gets **** loud but I want louder and I see so many pics of enclosures with 6in wide and larger ports and just wondered why. Do any of you know for a fact if a SSX is much louder than a SSI, and if so by how much? I was thinking of an upgrade and wanted to know if this would be the right move.
