I am looking at getting the fi Q18" sub for my car and i was wondering how large of a port i should have on a box. i am using the re audio inclosure calculator, but i dont know how big my port should be. can anyone help?

my box will be 2x2x2.

At 8 cubic feet you should be using a port that has 96-128 sq inch of port. What frequency do you wish to tune to?

So if your external height is 24 inches (2 feet), that gives you an internal height of 22.5

At 112 sq inches of port you would want a port that is 22.5 inches x 5 inches.

My advise would be to make the box wider and not as tall.

would i put my sub on the side of the port?

also is there like a range of inches of how big my port can be?

If you were to be looking at the side of the box that has the port, the sub would be mounted to the left or right of the port depending on which side of the box the port is on.
