Port placement: does it matter?

Does the position of the port matter, as long as its facing the same direction? What I mean is, I plan to do a slot ported, sub/port back-box in my trunk, but I want to build the port to where it would run across the bottom of the box facing back, with the sub on top of the port, (i.e. picture a regular ported enclosure turned on its side, rather than having the port on the drivers side.)

The port in my box would be 2"high x 40" wide, and would be 80sqin of port, my old box would be a 5"wide x 15.5"high port, so about the same port area overall. Does it matter as long as the port and sub are able to get the sound back into the cabin, and they aren't too close to the back of my trunk?

no will not matter that much but might affect output marginaly +/- .5 db's but aestheticaly will be better so build it and watch out for port noise use a 45 in rear corner of port

Yeah like this one, but the sub would be on the same side as the port, so put the sub on the black part of that box, facing back.

No difference really from a traditional side port? ////in a trunk though, not an SUV
