Port or Seal?

Okay, so my 12" type-r's should be arriving soon, and I just can't decide whether I should get a sealed box or ported box. I know that they would have pretty good sq in a sealed box, but I would also like some spl. Would porting the box be worth it? Or would I be sacrificing too much sound quality? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

How would a ported box be sacraficing sound quality? Most of the recording studios use ported boxes. Sealed is much easier to build though.

cause the ported moves more air resulting in a higher sound pressure level. so this will sacrifice sound quality. i think that you should go sealed in this case. those type r's will still hit hard even though you're using a sealed.

when you try to get high spl out of a sealed box the increase in woofer travel (xmax) will cause distortion. A ported box can produce high output with very little xmax above the tunning freq.

ported boxxes exagerate whats there and also distort yes most good home stereo speakers port for more bass but those are very small drivers

A good ported box can provide clean, high output down to 30 hz @ -3 db. A sealed box will start to roll off around 50 hz and be -10 or 12 db at 30 hz.

If you have a correctly tuned box and a box that is large enough, your SQ shouldnt take that much of a hit. However if you do not have these, it will sound like crap.
