port direction vs sub direction.

That's one of the differences between sealed and ported boxes. In a ported box, the port is what plays the notes. This is also what introduces the concept of group delay. It's the amount of time between the sub hitting and port producing that note.

To give you some insight, it is my understanding that the direction of the subs is irrelevant in a ported box. You can essentially think of it as the port playing the music, not the subs. Having said that, I'm not sure which direction the port should point in your vehicle. I've only had subs and ports always point toward the rear of the car. My gut feeling says that you shouldn't have the port firing up though.
Port direction matters a lot. You lose a lot of output if the port is in inadequate locations. All serious competitors know the importance of port loading and direction.

Do you have any experience with walling off a trunk car and firing through the deck? Sub forward. Port up

If you have the room on the front of your box I would do subs forward port forward and seal off the trunk
Not that simple. Too many variables. Tried this and port up through the deck, both with the trunk sealed off. Lost db's big both times. Gonna try a horn loaded on my next attempt.

What car? Right now I have subs forward and port to the side. Gets pretty loud. Next I was going to do subs forward port forward

Weird. Good thing I didn't do that then. I'd figure that less room in the car would give you more bass but with your experimentation. I guess subs really do need something to "load off* of. I never did understand wtf that meant.

I faces my sub box forward and shoved abunch of blankets around it to psuedo seal it off. Just for experimentation. Def lost DB but gained punchyness
did you try facing into the cabin, but pushing the box to the back of the trunk? Some have good luck with that
