port direction vs sub direction.

So I'm curious how the port direction relates to the sub direction. For example say your trying to wall off a trunk and you put the sub wall a few inches from where the seats close when you have them up. Doing this to stop the subs from hitting the seats when their playing. Now what's the difference in porting up through the deck rather than the front of the wall

Or if the subs are facing the edge of the trunk like most people have them so that they "load" off the trunk. How does having the port facing the trunk rather than say on the side of the box?

I was kind of curious about this as well since i will be having my subs face forward and port on the side
I had a prefab box for awhile with two 12" kenwoods facing the trunk. The port was a Aero port on the side of the box. Subs still loaded off the trunk. That much I know from experimenting. So I think you'll be fine

Well its going in a hatch and ilthe box is too big for the tiny space so heres a pic of a mock up with the empty box

Idk whether to face port on driver side or passenger or maybe even face subs up or they can be faced at an angle towards the rear hatch glass

I dont mean to be thread jacking just curious about placement and what not ive seen bandpass boxes ported through the rear deck but they were facing back all the forward facing boxes or trunk walls there sub and port forward

this is actually a good question but will be hard to get a sure answer due to each vehicle being different, some vehicles do better subs and port firing off trunk, some are better sub back port side. The most comon is sub and port forward into cabin and seal off trunk from what i gather. The porting through rear deck is one that i see people do the least.

Mine currently is firing sub and port forward and will be sealing off the trunk.

To give you some insight, it is my understanding that the direction of the subs is irrelevant in a ported box. You can essentially think of it as the port playing the music, not the subs. Having said that, I'm not sure which direction the port should point in your vehicle. I've only had subs and ports always point toward the rear of the car. My gut feeling says that you shouldn't have the port firing up though.

I believe that's negligible as far sound goes. Btw you gotta spell common sense correctly if you're citing it haha
I feel like you still need to give the subs room to breathe though. If i made a wall for my trunk but only gave the subs a few inches of space between them and the seats when their up. Id be willing to bet that'd have an effect. Wether it be cancellation or peaks or something..

Ive never done an install like that but i would think that it wouldnt be so much as room for it to breathe but enough room that at full excursion they dont bang against the seat and cause an issue with the sub

Yeah, I would agree with that. As long as there's enough clearance for them to reach full excursion, should be fine.
