Port Design??

Ok, heres my question, say I have a port that needs to be 3x3 and 9 inches long. I want a port that is about longer, say the height of the box, maybe a inch wide, looks kinda like the wave box ports, whats the formula to make those style ports?

You mean the ports will bend?

As long as the height and width remin the same, the length should also remain the same. TO know how long it is, measure the CENTER of the port. Smaller the port, shorter the port. If you want the port to be longer, then make a larger port.

Somewhat, here's what I was figuring, the port surface area for a 3x3x9 port is 108 square inches, therefore, couldn't I make a port that has the same surface area, but instead of a square port, have a wider, thinner port.

I guess theoretically, it's alright. I can't think of why it won't work...excpet maybe port velocity. Then again, if the surface/volume is maintained, velocity SHOULD remain unchanged.

The ratio of W to h should not be any more than 9 to 1 to prevent tuning shifts introduced by excessive friction between the rapidly moving air and the port's surface. It should be noted that this is not a hard-and-fast rule, merely a rule of thumb to help you prevent a mis-tuning.

In short, keep the port as square as aesthetically and physically possible.
