Port area?

Ok I have a 187 series 12 and a box with 2 cubes after displacement and am running it at 500 watts, what port area should I go with, or will I notice a difference in sound between 20 square inches or 30 inches that is the range ia suggests for the sub. I am wanting max output but I don't want to lose the sound quality. Like what will be the changes from 20 to 30? What do you suggest for sound quality and hard hitting bass.

Little piece of info I have four of these all running at 500 each. In one box but all will be sperated by a divider like it's own seperate box each.

A good rule of thumb would be around 16 sq inches of port area per net cubic foot of airspace (so around 32 sq inches of port for a 2 cubic foot net enclosure would work well in most situations)

Alright that is a good rule of thumb, and a few people have told me that, but my main question is what difference would I notice if I went with say 20 inches as compared to 32 inches?
