Port Area vs port opening?

Looking at manufacturer specs if they say 22.5 square inches of port opening is that the same as saying 22.5 square inches of port area?

Yes

Just make sure the enclosure volume is the same

yes like he said make sure u make box that size if that only port u use.. many of us try for about 13.5 - 15 sq in port per cf (but that depends on power u have and sub too).. u don't want 20-25 sq in port on a 2.5cf box..

Ok thank you both for the replies. I will definitely make the box to the suggested size. I thought 22.5 port area was kinda high because i always see the 12-16 standard. Its for the IDMAX 15 in 4 cubes

12-16 per cf yeah., if box is 4cf ad port needs to be around 54-64 sq in.. more power bigger port, lower power can get by with smaller port..

I can't wait to get them. I haven't heard these in person but I've read nothing but great reviews. Going to work on the box tomorrow. Doing 8 cuft @ 35hz for the pair.

Sounds like a killer plan, wish I had space for one 15.
