port area related to excursion?

i have a treo ssi ten. right now i only have a 4" round pvc port, i plan to build a new box with a slot port that will be 2"X10.5" so it'll be 21 square inches of port area. the box will be slightly smaller(1.75 compared to 2.0). the tuning will be pretty much the same. will the increase in port area make the sub move less or more overall? i'm giving the sub about 750 watts rms which is what it calls for, and it seems like it moves a pretty good amount the way it is and i just wanna make sure with this new box it won't start to bottom out. i'm actually hopping it will move a little less. thanks in advance, Jay.

somebody has got to know if port area will effect excursion.....

yes it effects it. if its right it will get louder with a bigger port with less excursion. basicly more effecient...

has alot to do with box size and other factors but im to tired to post all that crap right now...

will your new box be 1.75 before sub and port or after ?

treo says to make it 1.75 after displacement of everything. i'm tuning it to 34 hzs. they reccomend 35 but idk. they also say to use 20 sq inches or port area, would going with even more than that be bad or good?

well i made the box and installed it tonight, took me about 6 hours or so. right now it's just bare mdf no carpet or anything on it yet so it's not 100% finished. i'll try to get some pictures today in the daylight. anyway.... it sounds sooo much louder and hits so much harder. compared to my last box this one has less internal volume, more port area, and the sub and port are pointing up straight at my hatch window, i'm not sure which factor contributed the most to it sounding better but it sure does. i had no idea one 10" woofer could be so loud.

yea it would be cool to have more. i'd get a 15" or two but i don't have the room in a little scion tc so this is good. plus it doesn't take much for a hatchback to get loud. so for now i'm happy.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
