popping sound, amp shutting down

so i have a pioneer a avhx4500bt going to a soundqubed sq2200.1 powering 2 rockford p3 12s. Its been working fine for some time and today ive been getting some weird popping sounds and the amp shut off. I immediately turned the system waaaaaay down, then off and checked all the power and ground connections. They seem to be solid, but the ground in the trunk is a bit rusted. When I get home (at work currently), Im gonna re-grind the metal for the ground and reconnect it, but Im afraid that im going to be chasing an electrical demon, Any thoughts on the direction I should be heading first here?

Its all 4 gauge OFC Memphis wiring with the big 3 done and a new alt. Kinda spooked 

d@mnit. I just got it back from soundqubed too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif botched repair you think?
I'm not too experienced in car audio, I'll admit lol so I can't say if it a botched repair. My previous mono amp would do this off an on until I'd have the wiring checked and a little fix done or something. Things would be fine for a bit and then it would do it again. After the 3rd time the amp was really the only thing left to blame. If it is continually doing it, I would hook your subs up to another amp if you have one or that of a friend and see if it keeps doing it. Does the amp get pretty warm when it shuts off?

I understand, but no. The amp is stone cold when it happens. Then again, I live in south Dakota and its about 20 degrees outside so its hard to tell, but its definitely not hot. Ill just leave it really low on the ride home and double check all my wiring. Thanks for helping out. Im just really spooked //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

all of my wiring is 4 gauge OFC memphis stuff. I was hoping that i didnt have to do ot gauge because of its cost. I have been running it this way for about 2 years without any of this popping, so im confused. I upgraded the alt recently, but the popping didn’t come in at that time, although it was approximately a week later. I fixed the rusted ground in the trunk the day I posted this and its still doing it. Thru process of elimination, I can only blame the deck, faulty wiring to the speakers or (god, I hope not) the alternator. The Big 3 is all solidly connected and is copper o rings straight to the engine, alt and body of the car. Only the deck, wiring and alt left to blame. God help me LoL

After grinding off the rust on the ground in the trunk and re seating it with a better screw (big thick threaded one with a hex head) and addressing the ones under the hood in the same manner, then recrimping some of the wires behind the deck, I turned the gain down on the amp along with the bass control knob way down and tried to recreate the popping without the amp being the culprit. It didn’t happen for several days then it cropped back up again. I also changed between a wide variety of music styles to see if that had any impact on it (edm (dubstep, trance, straight techno, etc etc), rock, metal, country, jazz, blues, bluegrass) and it was intermittent mostly on the rock stuff which makes me feel like it has something to do with the frequencies that the music is centered around. A few more experiments are in order, but I need to find a place to do them as to not be a nuisance while doing so. Im wanting to run it at a fair clip with the engine off to rule the alternator out as well. Ugh, this hasn’t been fun at all. I take that back… It has, but its so blasted cold up here in the northland right now for troubleshooting
